Chia seeds may be the perfect superfood. These tiny seeds are packed with protein, a bunch of vitamins and minerals, and can be used in so many different ways. It’s popularity has increased dramatically as people are recognizing how beneficial chia seeds can be. There are just so many great things about this superfood that we’ve made a list of 6 of our favorite chia health benefits. 

  1. A great source of essential nutrients

    Protein, fiber, omega-3s, calcium, iron, selenium, magnesium are all found in these tiny chia seeds! Not only do chia seeds contain important nutrients, but also antioxidants. It’s amazing that these tiny, versatile seeds have so many health benefits despite their size. Simply adding chia seeds to your smoothie instantly adds in a ton of nutrients and antioxidants! 

    Nutrition facts: One serving of chia seeds is one tablespoon or about 12g. In this 60-calorie serving, you’ll get 2g of protein, 4g of fiber, 5g of carbs, and 4g of fat. 

  2. Weight loss claims

    Chia seeds are known to support healthy weight loss because of its high soluble fiber content. Studies have shown that consuming high amounts of fiber may lead to weight loss.

    When soaked in water, chia seeds expand and become kind of gel-like. Did you know that chia seeds can absorb up to 12x their weight in water? That means when you put chia seeds in smoothies, you’ll get a thicker smoothie that will also keep you fuller longer.

  3. Good for Cholesterol

    Not only do chia seeds have 0g of cholesterol per serving, but they also reduce cholesterol levels. Studies show that this all has to do with the fiber content in chia seeds. The high fiber content helps reduce LDL cholesterol.

  4. Anti inflammatory

    Seeds such as flax, hemp and chia are all anti-inflammatory. This is due to the omega-3 content in chia seeds.

  5. Good for bones & teeth

    Calcium is great for maintaining healthy bones and teeth. Chia seeds contain approximately 18% of your recommended daily value of calcium intake.
